THE RIGHT PLAN FOR QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE
The LNP will deliver a major redevelopment of the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club, Wests Tigers, in Mirani if elected in October as part of their Games On! community Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund.
An LNP Government would deliver extensive upgrades to the Club buildings and fields to expand the scope of the sports offered to local kids and families, to boost participation in grassroots sport across Queensland in the leadup to Brisbane 2032 and beyond.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli said the $3.125 million project would be a big boost to local families in the Mirani community, changing the face of league in the region and expanding the club’s capacity for future generations.
“The LNP will deliver a legacy across Queensland ahead of 2032, to encourage more kids into sport and train our next generation of Olympians and Paralympians, including at West Tigers Rugby League,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Queensland’s grassroots sporting and recreation clubs are the backbone of local communities and Games On! will get more Queenslanders on the field.
“And the Club’s plans for this expansion onto a neighbouring cane farm paddock are projected to create 126 new jobs and inject $11.34 million into the local economy.”
LNP candidate for Mirani, Glen Kelly said the Wests Tigers upgrade would include extensions to current change rooms, the canteen and the bar building.
“The LNP’s Games On! funding will also deliver four new change rooms, new accessible toilets, a parent's room and a raised viewing platform for more families to enjoy watching their loved ones out on the grounds,” Mr Kelly said.
“Additionally we will build four multi-purpose courts with lighting for new sports including netball, basketball, pickleball and volleyball, while existing courts will be upgraded with lights and security fencing for the precinct.
“Labor’s failures have overseen $20 billion-plus in project cost blowouts that could have instead delivered grassroots infrastructure like re-developing Wests Tigers.
“Queenslanders should have a government that delivers the programs and services needed for the State’s future, supporting our communities.”
Wests Tigers General Manager Kingsley Theiber welcomed the announcement and said it would revitalise the sporting precinct for current and future players and their families.
“This expansion will prevent Valley residents having to make long round trips into Mackay to play sport, especially on school nights, and will further our ability to serve as a social club for the young people of our region,” Mr Theiber said.
Mirani candidate, Glen Kelly said Queenslanders could vote for the Wests Tigers Re-development and a government which worked for them, by voting LNP at this election.
“This State needs a Fresh Start. Only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s future.”
