- More speech and occupation therapist care to help kids with learning difficulties.
- Boost to professional development with additional 200 teachers each year to be trained in STEM or inclusive needs, to help boost education outcomes.
The LNP has announced its More Teachers, Better Education policy with a $207 million boost to Queensland’s education, with a focus on safe classrooms, more teachers and getting back to basics.
The policy is part of the LNP’s Working Harder for Queenslanders Plan and will be the first step in reversing the declining education outcomes for Queensland children.
Under Labor, 40% of students are failing basic maths and literacy national standards, with outcomes continuing to go backwards, while more than 13,400 teachers and teacher aides have left Queensland schools in the past four years.
The LNP’s More Teachers, Better Education will address the teacher workforce crisis, provide better teacher support and resources, lift education standards and implement a zero-tolerance approach to violence and drug use in Queensland schools.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli said More Teachers, Better Education was part of the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future, restoring a government that works for you.
“The LNP’s plan will deliver more teachers to give students the attention they need and get education back to basics to lift our lagging standards, unleashing kids’ full potential,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“We’ll free up teachers from red tape and admin so they can spend more time in the classroom and in one-on-one time with the students who need it.
“With more teacher aides and support teachers the focus can be back on teaching the basics like maths and English.
“We’ll also restore safe classrooms, by cracking down on bad behaviour and supporting teachers with more dedicated behavioural support specialists in our schools and extra school chaplains to support kids’ mental wellbeing.”
Shadow Minister for Education, Dr Christian Rowan said under Labor, Queensland was lagging behind national education standards.
“The LNP’s plan will deliver Queensland kids the world-class education they need, with more teachers, safe classrooms and putting the focus back on teaching the basics,” Dr Rowan said.
“Our plan will put more teachers in our classrooms, free them up to spend more time for teaching and provide the support students need to learn.
“Under Labor, school attendance rates have dropped, failure rates are up and violence is out of control in our schools.
“Only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future, including unleashing kids’ full potential with more teachers and better education.”
