THE RIGHT PLAN FOR QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE
The LNP has committed to support CCTV and crime prevention measures to prevent hooning, nuisance and property and motor vehicle offences in Oodgeroo if elected in October.
With a $600,000 commitment to fund fixed and mobile CCTV cameras, police will be better equipped to enforce laws relating to hooning and property and motor vehicle offences.
LNP candidate for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said the project was part of the LNP’s Making Our Community Safer Plan.
“The LNP will restore safety where you live with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Amanda Stoker said.
“This commitment is a direct response to listening to residents in Cleveland, Thornlands, Wellington Point, Birkdale and Ormiston. Over and over, locals raise with me the frequency and severity of hooning. It’s both a nuisance and a danger to the community – and we need to give our police officers the tools they need to stop it.”
“This funding will be applied to support fixed CCTV cameras in Cleveland in the vicinity of the Raby Bay VMR carpark, where resident feedback showed a council-run temporary trial was highly effective in deterring problem behaviour.”
“It will also support the use of mobile CCTV cameras for the prevention of hooning and enforcement of these laws across our community.”
Ric Dunford of the Cleveland Point Precinct Committee welcomed the announcement of fixed CCTV for the area surrounding the Raby Bay VMR carpark and said it would make a real difference to local amenity and the safety of the neighbourhood.
“The Cleveland Point Precinct Committee has been advocating for CCTV to be permanently deployed in this area for a long time because hooning in our streets isn’t just noisy, it’s dangerous. We are delighted to see the LNP has listened to our concerns and acted upon them.”
Amanda Stoker said Queenslanders could vote for these crime prevention measures by supporting the LNP with their vote at the upcoming election.
“Queenslanders must show Labor the door in 2024, to restore safety where they live,” Amanda Stoker said.
“Only the LNP stands ready to tackle crime in our community.”
