THE RIGHT PLAN FOR QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE
The LNP has committed to much needed improvements in hygiene and safety at Birkdale South State School investing $1 million in new amenities for students if elected next month.
Birkdale South State School’s P&C and student community have been concerned about the poor standard of toilet facilities for students for some time. With poor ventilation and plumbing, inefficient design and a dark, dank environment, one of the two amenities blocks in the school has had to be closed, with the other not much better.
LNP candidate for Capalaba Russell Field said that students deserve safe, clean and reliable amenities, because they are the precondition to learning well.
“It’s a disgrace that Birkdale South students have been expected to endure conditions like these because of the failure of the Labor government to properly plan for and invest in local school facilities.”
“An amenities block might seem like a basic thing, but without kids who are comfortable, they won’t be able to learn and play. That’s what school is all about.”
LNP candidate for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said that the school had been hoping for an investment in better facilities for some time.
“This amenities block will use a design that contains bullying prevention measures, good lighting and ventilation and reliable, well designed plumbing. With it, students will be able to focus on their learning, because these underlying needs will be met.”
Birkdale South State School P&C President Katie Cantrill welcomed the announcement and said it was a big step forward in the school’s plans to provide ever-improving facilities for students.
“We want to see every Birkdale South student do their best in the classroom and in their social interactions, and that requires safe, clean and inviting bathrooms. For too long our school has had to struggle with poor plumbing, foul smells and materials and design that are not conducive to hygiene. With this investment, we can have amenities that support the health of our kids, as well as support preventative strategies for problem behaviour.”
“Thanks to this investment, we can have confidence that our students will be safe, clean, comfortable and ready to learn.”
“It's great to see that if elected an LNP government will support the important work we are doing as a school community to help every student be their best.”
