THE RIGHT PLAN FOR QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE
The LNP has committed to provide long term lease security to Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club, to secure the future of this Club if elected next month.
Currently, the absence of long-term security for the tenure of the Club on its Point Lookout site is hampering its ability to invest it its facilities. That certainty is needed to ensure the Club has a strong future strategy to continue to patrol beaches on North Stradbroke Island as well as offering a popular nippers program that attracts families from across North Stradbroke Island and the Redlands.
LNP candidate for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said the LNP’s commitment to provide a long-term lease, with further options for extension, is a practical way to secure the future of the Club and ensure it continues to play an important role in the community for many years to come.
“Providing certainty of land tenure for the Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club takes down a barrier to its plans to invest in better facilities and allows the Club to put in place a strategy to make it successful and sustainable well into the future.”
“Securing the Club’s land tenure not only means Redlanders and our visitors will benefit from having a long term presence of highly qualified Surf Life Savers keeping them safe, they will also have certainty for the popular nippers program, and North Stradbroke Island can look forward to having a pipeline of volunteers to patrol its beaches for the years ahead.”
“It’s a sign of the LNP’s support for the hard work of Surf Lifesaving patrol volunteers. I am thrilled to see the future of the Club’s services and its thriving nippers program secured by this commitment.”
Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club President Matthew Robinson welcomed the announcement and said it would give the Club the ability to plan for the future.
“Until now, our Club hasn’t been able to progress plans to upgrade our facilities and improve our offering to the community because of the short term of our lease, without clarity about whether it would be renewed into the future. Thanks to this commitment, we are able to plan to ensure we are able to sustainably offer our range of nippers, surf lifesaving and patrolling activities. It’s a game-changer for the Club, the kids who learn in it and the Straddie community and visitors that benefit from the wide range of services we provide.”
Russell Perry, whose daughters participate in the nippers program, said he was excited to hear that the ongoing operation of the Club was secured by this commitment.
“Without the Club’s presence in Point Lookout, our family wouldn’t get the social and physical benefits of being part of the nippers program – and lots of families like ours wouldn’t get to enjoy the safety of patrolled Straddie beaches. I’m so pleased the LNP has backed the Club with this commitment.”
Amanda Stoker said locals could vote for certainty of land tenure for Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club by voting for the LNP at the upcoming state election.
“This commitment is an expression of the high value the LNP places on the work done by our volunteer Surf Life Savers, and an endorsement of way the Club offers positive sporting experiences for young people. There’s nothing better than sport to bring together kids from all walks of life to learn and build their character. And there’s no better place to do it than on Straddie’s beaches! I’m delighted to support the great work Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club does to build up young people from Straddie and across the Redlands.”
