THE RIGHT PLAN FOR QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE
The LNP has committed to upgrading the Calliope State School pick up/drop off zone, to improve safety for the community of Calliope if elected this month.
Each day more than 500 students from prep to year six travel to school by bus, car, bike or on foot with the majority accessing the school via the Dawson Highway which is used by heavy vehicles, some carrying dangerous goods.
This essential upgrade will ease congestion around school start and finish time for road users and increase safety for students, carers, the local community, teaching and support staff.
LNP MP for Callide, Bryson Head said the $300,000 would help deliver the much-needed upgrade to allow the prosperous community of Calliope to continue to grow.
“The LNP will restore a government that works for you, with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Mr Head said.
“This school upgrade is part of restoring a government that educates young Queenslanders, boosts our skills training facilities and puts more teachers in our schools.
“A petition about this parking issue at Calliope State School received more than 500 signatures from concerned community members, highlighting just how important this matter is.
“While Labor’s failures have seen approximately 40 per cent of students failing maths and literacy national standards, a statewide teacher shortage and attendance rates plummet,” said Mr Head.
Calliope families and residents welcomed the announcement and said it was a necessary upgrade for a growing community.
Mathew Carlyon is a concerned parent and community member who said this section of the Dawson Highway is extremely busy, frequented by heavy vehicles carrying fuel, gas and chemicals, all in close proximity to the Calliope State School.
“I have major concerns for the safety of students and other visitors to the Calliope State School,” Mathew said.
“I welcome this much needed announcement to upgrade the pickup/drop off zone.”
Bryson Head said Queenslanders could vote for the upgraded Calliope State School pick up and drop off zone, and a Fresh Start for Queensland, by voting LNP on October 26.
“Only by voting 1 LNP will Queenslanders get a Fresh Start and projects like the upgraded pick up and drop off zone at Calliope State School," Mr Head said.
“Labor is desperate to hold onto power, but unless we change the government, we’ll continue to get more of the same under Labor.
“This is the opportunity for a Fresh Start with the LNP’s Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.”
