Meet Michael
A Message From Michael
Hi, I'm Michael Crandon, your LNP member for Coomera.
State Member for Coomera (since March 2009) Michael Crandon is a long-standing resident and community representative in the Coomera electorate, having lived in the area since 1978.
Together with his wife, Pauline, they have raised three sons and are proud grandparents and great grandparents.
Attracted by the opportunities in the fast-growing Northern Gold Coast region and the family friendly environment it offers, Michael is committed to enhancing community safety. He advocates for increased numbers of police officers and restoring the consequences for actions under the Youth Justice Act, aligning with the Liberal National Party's (LNP) focus on law and order.
Michael has been involved in numerous community organisations over many years, most recently the Rotary Club of Ormeau Pimpama (Member), the Ormeau Lions Club (Member), Woongoolba Bowls Club (Patron), Jacobs Well Volunteer Marine Rescue (Patron), Northern Gold Coast RSL Subbranch (Member), Pimpama Men’s Shed (Member).
These grassroots clubs contribute significantly to the Northern Gold Coast community, and Michael shares their ethos of community living. Recognising the need for improved healthcare services, he has been a strong advocate for establishing a hospital in Coomera, in line with the LNP's commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
Before entering politics, Michael worked as a financial planner for over 21 years. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialisation in Finance and Investment, a Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism and Mass Communication, a Diploma of Financial Planning, and a Diploma of Life Insurance. His financial background uniquely positions him to understand family finances during the current cost-of-living crisis. Michael and the LNP have developed a plan to help balance the family budget, emphasising the need to put downward pressure on electricity prices and relieving the day-to-day pressures faced by families experiencing mortgage stress and rent increases.
Elected as the State Member for Coomera in March 2009, Michael has served on various Parliamentary Committees, with current roles on the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee and the Cost of Living and Economics Committee.
His legislative work focuses on oversight of public accounts, public works infrastructure, and community safety through oversight of the CCC, all critical issues for the Northern Gold Coast.
As the fastest-growing region in Queensland, with Pimpama at its heart, the LNP's housing and infrastructure policies aim to alleviate congestion and improve transportation, ensuring families can get home quicker and safer.
In addition to his political career, Michael has a passion for photography, particularly bird photography, which he enjoys as a form of relaxation. He is also deeply concerned about community issues such as bullying in our schools and broader community and finding ways to curtail the propensity for recidivist offending by encouraging and nurturing organisations to develop and grow gold standard programs as a means of intervention and, importantly, self-development.
In remaining actively involved with local school communities, Michael's dedication to his community and alignment with LNP policies reflect his commitment to making the Northern Gold Coast a safer and more prosperous place to live, work and play.
