Meet Nigel
A Message From Nigel
Hi, I'm Nigel Dalton, your LNP candidate for Mackay.
I've served the Mackay community as a police officer for the past 22 years and now I'm ready for a fresh challenge .
I want to make sure Mackay gets the attention it deserves from every level of government so I'm standing up and speaking out about the things that matter.
People deserve to feel safe in their homes and on our streets.
Laws need to change so that courts can impose the sentences we expect.
Families need support to find homes, raise children and make ends meet.
Those working on the front lines - in crime prevention, emergency services, health and housing - deserve our support and respect.
I want to continue serving this community and I'm ready, willing and able to deliver the change we need.
I have a proven record of commitment and was honoured to be named the 2023 Citizen of the Year for Mackay.
I have developed many successful projects to educate children on everything from road safety to drug addiction.
I have strong connections to community organisations, including seniors, men’s, church and sporting groups.
I will always champion the causes that put Mackay families first and I thank you for your support.
More about Nigel
I have lived and worked in Mackay for the past 22 years with my wonderful wife Sue and children Angus and Alice.
Since 2006, until retiring earlier this year, I’ve served as the Sergeant in Charge of Mackay’s Crime Prevention Unit.
I’ve always enjoyed working with our local community - in particular, with young people - on projects to teach safety and prevent crime.
I’m proud to have developed many successful projects for children, providing education on everything from road safety and digital addiction to drug information and domestic and family violence.
I also have strong connections with other community organisations, including seniors, men’s, church and sporting groups. I am an active participant in national masters swimming events with the North Mackay Sinkers Masters Swimming Club and I’ve also served on the committees of a number of safety, health and youth referral organisations. I’m proud to support the work of our street chaplains.
In 2023, I was honoured to be named Citizen of the Year at the Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards.
In 2022, I was humbled when Neighbourhood Watch Australasia recognised my service by presenting me with their Police Commissioner’s Award. In 2018, I received a Queensland Police Service bronze award for my focus on community policing.
I believe I have a proven track record of dedicated service to the people of Mackay and I am ready, willing and able to be the city’s next Member of Parliament.
