MAKING OUR COMMUNITY SAFER PLAN
The LNP will restore safety where you live as part of its Making Our Community Safer Plan, with a major boost to policing in Burleigh Heads announced today.
Retailers, residents and tourists have been demanding an increase to police presence in the Burleigh entertainment and dining precincts, after escalating crime.
The LNP has announced if elected it will deliver a major boost to safety with:
- A permanent Police Beat with an established shop front for frontline police to be based in and additional police based in Burleigh.
- A $500,000 upgrade to the Gold Coast City Council’s Safe City CCTV network.
- A Local Liquor Accord to allow licensed premises, retailers, police and community members to work together to direct policing needs and security priorities.
Shadow Police and Community Safety Minister, Dan Purdie said the $4.1 million announcement was part of the LNP’s Making Our Community Safer Plan.
“The LNP will restore safety where you live with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Mr Purdie said.
“I was a frontline officer when Labor watered down Queensland’s crime laws and today we’re living with the impact of that.
“Our hardworking police need more support and resources to deliver community safety.”
LNP Candidate for Burleigh Hermann Vorster said the community had been calling for a permanent police presence in the busy precinct.
“The LNP’s commitment will return police to the beat in Burleigh Heads protecting our community from escalating crime.
“Burleigh Heads has officially reached its breaking point, tourists and residents have had enough of Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis.
“Queenslanders have been held hostage by crime, but the LNP is committed to making our community safer with Adult Crime, Adult Time, Gold Standard Early Intervention and effective rehabilitation.
“Labor’s failures have seen crime skyrocket, with almost 300,000 Queenslanders victim to violations like car theft, break-ins and assaults, just last year.
“Only the LNP has the Right Plan to restore safety to Burleigh with a boost to police.”
Lance Edbrooke, a Burleigh-based community safety campaigner welcomed the announcement and said it was an important step in restoring law and order to Burleigh Heads.
“Burleigh Heads is not just a dining and retail destination, but a home to thousands of families who deserve to feel safe day or night,” said Mr Edbrooke.
“The Labor State Government has ignored our pleas and has left our police desperately short of the resources they need to manage the changing face of the area.
“The LNP’s commitment to a visible police presence in Burleigh Heads is exactly what’s needed and just another reason why the government must change this month.”
Hermann Vorster said Queenslanders could vote for more police officers in Burleigh Heads and a government which worked for them, by voting LNP at this election.
“Queenslanders must show Labor the door in 2024, to restore safety where they live,” Hermann Vorster said.
“Queensland needs a fresh start, only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.”
