LNP delivers bold 20-year housing plan to build the homes for Queensland’s Future
- Deliver 10,000 new social and community homes on church and charity-owned land by 2044, in partnership with the Community Housing Sector.
- Redirect every dollar of the $2 billion Housing Investment Fund into building new social homes.
- Unleash the Community Housing Sector with long-term management leases to drive reinvestment into new community housing supply.
- Deliver eight new supported accommodation services for young Queenslanders.
- Bolster after hours outreach homeless services for those sleeping rough.
- Deliver ten new and replaced domestic and family violence shelters for vulnerable women and children.
- Deliver 53,500 additional social and community homes by 2044.
The LNP has today announced a landmark Homes with Purpose policy to unleash the community housing sector and finally provide housing security for Queenslanders in need.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli made the announcement today in his Budget Reply Speech, outlining a bold housing plan across six key policy areas to secure Queensland’s housing foundations across the next two decades.
Homes with Purpose will unleash the capacity of the Community Housing Sector to tackle the housing gap in Queensland which has left thousands of Queenslanders living in tents, cars and languishing on waitlists in a Housing Crisis.
Under Labor, social housing has failed to keep pace with need. Over the past decade social housing supply has increased by just 3.4%, while our population has grown by close to 15%.
Mr Crisafulli said Homes with Purpose would open the door to community housing in Queensland.
“The LNP’s policy will open the door to 10,000 new social and community homes and ramp-up housing for vulnerable Queenslanders by 53,500 homes over two decades,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“The LNP will deliver the first 500 of these homes within two years, immediately bolstering housing supply to ease pressure on Queenslanders.
“We will unlock housing on land that would not have otherwise been available, which will help secure Queensland’s housing foundations for the future.
“Our Community Housing Sector stands ready and willing to help; for too long they’ve been shut out and ignored, but the LNP will unleash their full potential to tackle the Queensland Housing Crisis.”
Mr Crisafulli said the LNP would also use the Housing Investment Fund exclusively to build new homes.
“The LNP will use every dollar of the Housing Investment Fund to build homes for Queenslanders,” he said.
“We won’t allow Labor to continue compounding the rental squeeze by removing rentals for social housing, instead the LNP will increase the total pool of social housing by building new homes.
“Labor’s failures have put the squeeze on renters and buyers and left Queenslanders without a roof over their head.
“That’s why the LNP will invest in new supply to ease pressure on the Queensland Housing Crisis.
“The LNP will also bolster emergency housing for Queenslanders, with more homeless support services, new accommodation and outreach services, as well as domestic and family violence shelters.
“Queenslanders need more than the false hope and broken promises they’ve been getting from Labor for the past decade.
“The LNP will secure our housing foundations, with a plan to build the social and community housing we need over the coming two decades.”
