An elected Dutton Coalition Government will provide $225,000 to the Chinese Museum of Queensland to improve its website and take the first steps towards its goal of building a physical museum in Brisbane.

The Chinese Museum of Queensland plays a vital role in preserving the stories of Queensland's Chinese heritage, including the contributions of Chinese immigrants to Australia and cultural and religious traditions of Chinese Australian communities.

This project will benefit all of Queensland – from the Chinese community in Moreton, Rankin, Bonner, Brisbane, and Ryan through to Far North Queensland including Cairns, which has a long and rich Chinese heritage.

The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, said “The Chinese Museum of Queensland is a testament to the achievement of modern Australia and the significant contributions Chinese Australians have made to our country”.

“I am pleased to confirm that a Dutton Coalition Government will provide the museum with the support it needs to scale up its virtual museum and move towards its long-term vision for a permanent physical museum.”

The Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Jason Wood MP said “For more than 200 years, Chinese Queenslanders have played a vital role in shaping our nation -from gold mining and agriculture to business, economy, medicine, and the arts. Their hard work, dedication, and cultural traditions have strengthened our multicultural society.

The Chinese Museum of Queensland is an invaluable institution that preserves and celebrates the rich history, contributions, and cultural heritage of Queensland’s Chinese Australian community. This important project ensures that future generations can connect with and celebrate the enduring legacy of Queensland’s Chinese community.”

The Shadow Assistant Minister for Multicultural Engagement, Senator Paul Scarr, said “When I attended the relaunch of the Chinese Museum of Queensland website, I was deeply moved by the stories told. This funding will enable more Australians to learn about the history of the contribution of Queenslanders of Chinese heritage.”

“Sophia Li and Peter Zhuang – two of our senate candidates for Queensland – are proud Australian Chinese immigrants who embody the spirit of dynamism and opportunity celebrated by the museum, and it’s wonderful to have them on our senate ticket.”

Henry Swindon, Liberal National Candidate for Moreton, said “I was honoured to attend the relaunch of the Chinese Museum of Queensland’s website earlier this year. The Chinese Museum of Queensland’s online resources will be a treasure trove for locals like me who want to learn more about our history. This funding will also help the team begin their search for a physical space to showcase their important work.”

This commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to support our local communities and get our country Back on Track.
