LNP Candidate for Leichhardt, Jeremy Neal, has today announced a $134,760 election commitment to upgrade fencing at the Holloways Beach sporting grounds, delivering much-needed improvements for local clubs and the wider community.
The project, with a total cost of $154,760, will be delivered in partnership with AFL Cairns and Cairns Regional Council, ensuring the facility remains safe, accessible, and fit for purpose. AFL Cairns has committed $20,000 towards the project and will manage its delivery.
Mr Neal said the commitment highlights the LNP’s strong support for local sporting clubs and
community facilities in the region.
“Sport is at the heart of our community, and this funding will ensure that Holloways Beach remains a high-quality venue for AFL, junior sport, and recreational activities,” Mr Neal said.
“AFL Cairns and Cairns Regional Council have put forward a strong case for these upgrades, and I’m proud to back them with this funding commitment. The improved fencing will enhance player and spectator safety while ensuring the facility continues to be a key sporting asset for the region.”
AFL Cairns club president Shane Law, welcomed the announcement, thanking Mr Neal and the LNP for recognising the importance of local sporting infrastructure.
“Holloways Beach plays a crucial role in our AFL Cairns competition and is home to local players
and fans who rely on quality facilities. This funding will ensure that the grounds remain secure and
well-maintained for years to come,” Mr Law said.
Mr Neal emphasised the importance of investing in grassroots sport, noting the broader benefits
for health, wellbeing, and community cohesion.
“Sporting clubs provide a vital outlet for young people, families, and volunteers, and it’s critical that we continue to support the infrastructure they rely on. The LNP understands the importance of sport in our communities, and we will always back projects that make a real difference,” Mr Neal said as possible.
