- Fast-tracked approvals to build new homes, quicker.
The LNP has today announced an ambitious policy to Unlock Homes for Queensland’s Future, mapping out how it will deliver one million new homes over the next two decades.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli announced the Unlocking Homes for Queensland’s Future policy in his Budget Reply speech today, as part of his wider Securing our Housing Foundations housing plan.
Unlocking Homes for Queensland’s Future is one of six key policy areas in the LNP’s housing plan and addresses the critical issue of lack of housing supply that has led to the Queensland Housing Crisis.
Over the past decade, housing lot approvals have declined by almost 30% under Labor, leaving Queensland housing supply lagging behind the State’s growing population.
After a decade of Labor’s housing failures, which have led to the Queensland Housing Crisis, housing is a key battleline for the October State election.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli said the LNP’s Unlocking Homes for Queensland’s Future would map out where every one of the one million new homes would go for the next 20 years.
“The LNP will deliver the homes for Queensland’s future by unlocking the land for housing, fast-tracking approvals and delivering the infrastructure to kick-start new housing developments,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Our plan will get Queenslanders into homes sooner and ensure we deliver the homes our growing State needs over the coming two decades.
“We will deliver new regional plans, matched with infrastructure plans, covering every corner of this State to ensure we have the land needed to build the homes we require to put a roof over Queenslanders’ heads.
“Under Labor, some Regional Plans are 15 years out of date, we will work with communities to update these plans with clear outlines of where housing will be delivered across our vast State.
“Queenslanders, local government and industry all need confidence, certainty and a roadmap, which is what the LNP will deliver.
“We will reset the planning partnership with local government, streamlining the approvals process for planning scheme amendments while preserving a rigorous community consultation process.
“In the next five years, we will scale-up housing approvals by 25%, before ramping up further to reach one million extra homes by 2044.
“In partnership with local government and with the support of Economic Development Queensland, we will fast-track approvals to build new homes quicker.
“The LNP will also deliver a new $2 billion dedicated fund for the infrastructure needed to get new housing developments out of the ground.
“For homes to be ready for Queenslanders, the water, sewerage, lighting, roads and parks must be built.
“Our plan will provide the funds to kick-start the infrastructure in new housing developments to get Queenslanders into houses sooner.
“Under Labor, Queensland will continue to get more of the same, with fewer houses, more uncertainty and no credible plan to ease the Housing Crisis.
“It has never been more difficult to find, secure and keep a roof over your head than in Queensland under this Labor government.
“Only the LNP will ease the Queensland Housing Crisis and secure our housing foundations.”
