The LNP will break down the barriers to building new homes, to get Queenslanders into new homes sooner, as part of a policy designed to deliver one million new homes by 2044.
The Breaking Down the Barriers to Building policy will reduce the cost and make it easier to build homes in Queensland, increasing supply to ease the Housing Crisis.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli made the announcement today in his Budget Reply Speech, outlining an ambitious housing plan across six key policy areas to secure Queensland’s housing foundations over the next two decades.
In the middle of a Housing Crisis, Queenslanders are being locked out of homes for longer, putting more pressure on the rental market and driving-up the cost of housing.
Mr Crisafulli said the LNP would remove the red-tape bogging down building.
“The LNP will break down barriers to building, to help move Queenslanders into new homes sooner,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“While new homes sit vacant for months waiting for infrastructure and utilities connections, the Queensland Housing Crisis continues to get worse.
“These delays and failures are adding to the home ownership nightmare and sending the cost of new homes skyrocketing.
“Our $2 billion investment will help fast-track infrastructure for new housing developments and move Queenslanders into their homes sooner.
“A dedicated Cabinet taskforce will hold Ministers and Directors-General accountable to delivering the one million homes in our Securing our Housing Foundation plan.
“An LNP Government would also combine shareholder directions to government owned utility providers and legislation to deliver enforceable KPIs to get Queenslanders into homes sooner.
“We will boost building industry productivity by tasking the Productivity Commission to identify ways to remove red-tape, increase productivity, while protecting safe work sites, well paid workers and honouring contracts.
“Delays in approvals, building, materials, lack of tradies and connection of utilities are shutting out Queensland families, but the LNP will break-down these barriers.”
Mr Crisafulli said the foundations also rested in the resources and materials for the building sector.
“A priority for the LNP will be ensuring industry has access to the materials required to build one million homes over two decades,” he said.
“A landmark Queensland Timber Action Plan will secure the sustainable timber supply needed to build more homes in Queensland.
“The LNP will also put more tradies on the tools in Queensland, with a focus on boost to vocational training.
“Only the LNP will secure our housing foundations, by breaking down the barriers to building.”
