The LNP has committed to supporting Brisbane City Council to expand the CitySafe CCTV network if elected next month.
This significant investment aims to enhance safety across the inner-city suburbs where antisocial and criminal behaviour is on the rise under Labor.
LNP Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety, Dan Purdie, said that $500,000 proposal is an important part of the LNP’s Making Our Community Safer Plan.
“The LNP will restore safety where you live with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” the Shadow Minister said.
“This investment will enhance the CitySafe CCTV network, allowing quicker response times from law enforcement and emergency responders, and deterring criminal and antisocial behaviour in identified hotspots.”
LNP candidate for McConnel, Christien Duffey, emphasised the importance of this initiative to the local community.
“Our community no longer feels as safe as it once was. This investment will enable the CitySafe CCTV network to cover more areas, ensuring that residents and visitors feel secure in our public spaces.”
“We have some of the best public spaces in all of Queensland, from beautiful heritage-listed parks to built-up communal areas, and making sure our community feels safe no matter where they live, work and play is my number one priority.”
Local Councillor Vicki Howard welcomed the announcement on behalf of Brisbane City Council, noting that expanding the CCTV network will provide an added layer of security and act as a deterrent to potential offenders.
“Unfortunately, crime, particularly youth crime, is a growing problem.
“It’s fantastic Christien and the LNP state team are stepping up to address this issue by investing in initiatives that make our suburbs safer.
“We will always stand up for Brisbane on crime and this commitment by the LNP will help keep our communities safe and protect our incredible lifestyle,” said Cr Howard.
“Queenslanders must show Labor the door in 2024, to restore safety where they live,” Christien Duffey said.
“Only the LNP stands ready to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.”
