The LNP will take decisive action to protect Ipswich residents from noxious odours affecting their health and wellbeing, if elected on October 26.
For too long, Ipswich residents have endured unacceptable odours from the Swanbank landfill site, raising serious concerns about potential health impacts.
Shadow Health Minister Ros Bates today announced that an LNP government would establish a comprehensive Public Health Inquiry to sniff out the truth and uncover the health risks associated with the noxious fumes.
“Labor has ignored this issue for too long, leaving Ipswich residents in the dark about the potential dangers to their health,” Ms Bates said.
“By examining the health risks linked to these odours, we can finally provide Ipswich families with the answers and protection they deserve.
“While the Health Minister continues to ignore Swanbank’s odour problem, the LNP will clear the air and get real answers for the people of Ipswich.”
The Public Health Inquiry will investigate the extent of the health risks posed by the waste fumes, as well as what actions can be taken to mitigate the impact on local communities.
It will include consultation with public health experts, environmental scientists, and local residents affected by the issue.
LNP candidate for Ipswich West Georgia Toft said an inquiry will deliver accountability.
“The residents of Ipswich deserve transparency. The LNP will not turn our noses up at this issue like Labor has,” Ms Toft said.
“This inquiry will shine a light on the issue and ensure that Ipswich families are safe and well-informed.”
LNP candidate for Bundamba Carl Mutzelburg said the local community has suffered for too long.
“The silence from Labor on this issue has been deafening. Ipswich residents deserve a government that will work for them and take their concerns seriously.
“This state needs a fresh start, and only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland.”
