Disability Parking Permits will be free under a future Crisafulli LNP Government, in a significant move aimed at tackling cost of living pressures impacting Queensland’s disability community.
The LNP will also allow families to apply for disability parking permits for multiple vehicles within the one family at no cost, after feedback from the community identified some families were forced to manage a single permit for a family member who uses different vehicles throughout the day.
Shadow Minister for Cost of Living Deb Frecklington said the LNP would scrap disability parking permit fees to help ease financial pressures for Queenslanders.
“The LNP has been listening to Queenslanders and will ease cost of living pressures by making disability parking permits free,” Ms Frecklington said.
“Able bodied people aren’t paying for car parks, so why should that be different for anybody else?
“Queensland families are doing it tough and the LNP’s plan is another way we’re easing the pressure.
“As well as saving money, eligible Queenslanders will be able to apply for multiple disability parking permits.
“Thousands of Queensland families will benefit from our plan to make these parking permits free.”
Buderim MP Brent Mickelberg said while the change was small, it would make a big difference to many Queensland families.
“An LNP Government will make this simple change so families and carers can have one less worry,” Mr Mickelberg said.
“As it stands, if a mum drops their child, who has a disability, off to school and the dad picks them up, that disability permit would need to be passed between cars.
“Parents of kids know it’s hard enough to remember the school hat, let alone a disability permit each day.
“This issue was brought to our attention by a mum who was rightly frustrated with the permit juggle every day.
“An LNP Government will make this simple change so families and carers can have one less worry in their day.
“The LNP will restore a government that works for you, with the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.”
