The LNP has announced Bundaberg will be the location of one of nine new Regional Reset Programs, as part of a $50 million plan to tackle youth crime across Queensland and restore safety where you live.
The Regional Reset Program forms part of the LNP’s Making Our Community Safer Plan, targeting out-of-control youths who are veering towards lives of crime.
The Bundaberg program will offer one-to-three week live-in interventions to reset the lives of youth demonstrating high-risk behaviour, such as aggression, truancy, and substance abuse, diverting them from further criminal activity.
It will provide them with life skills, structure, and discipline, offering a chance to get back on track before they become repeat offenders.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli said a Bundaberg region program would play a crucial role in breaking the youth crime cycle.
“The Bundaberg Regional Reset Program will reset young lives with the life skills, discipline and support they need to turn the corner on crime,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“It will focus on education, discipline, counselling, training and employment skills, with programs that include community volunteering, cultural activities, skills, adventure and sport.
“We must give these kids hope and provide help to turn towards a brighter future.
“Early intervention is not one size fits all. Some kids will require more intensive intervention to rise above a life of crime, which is where the LNP’s Regional Reset Program comes in.
“The Regional Reset Program is in addition to Gold Standard Early Intervention, Youth Justice Schools and the Right Track program, which are part of the suite of Early Intervention measures.”
LNP candidate for Bundaberg Bree Watson said the Regional Reset Program would give at-risk Wide Bay youth the tools to turn their lives around.
“This program will make a real difference to our community by pulling wayward teens out of destructive environments and setting them up for success,” Ms Watson said.
“It will provide them with mentoring, life skills and the support they need to reconnect with their community and stay out of trouble.
“Under Labor, too many kids have been left without hope. The LNP will provide them with the support they need to stay out of trouble and build a better future.”
Bree Watson said to end the Youth Crime Crisis, Bundaberg needed to vote for change.
“Only a Vote 1 for LNP will deliver a Fresh Start for Queensland.
“The LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future, to restore safety where you live.”
