The LNP will save Wynnum Community Place to support those doing it tough if elected on October 26.
The crucial service, which provides support to the homeless and those under pressure due to Queensland’s cost of living crisis, was forced to close its doors last month due to a lack of support from the Labor Government.
Before it closed, Wynnum Community Place provided emergency relief in the form of community meals, laundry and shower services, as well as fresh fruit and vegetable packs.
LNP candidate for Lytton Chad Gardiner said an LNP Government would commit $500,000 in new funding to ensure the service’s survival and provide certainty for its operations over the next two years.
“The new funding will ensure Wynnum Community Place continues to serve the Lytton community for at least another two years and allow it to multiply its impact through five-day-a-week operations,” Mr Gardiner said.
“When you visit Wynnum Community Place, the need is evident. So is the unique connection that exists between this place and our community, and the connections being made between those who attend.
“Queenslanders deserve a government that delivers the programs and services needed for the State’s future, supporting our communities.”
“This state needs a fresh start, and only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland.”
Allison Wicks, CEO responsible for Wynnum Community Place, welcomed the announcement.
“It is heartwarming to realise that WCP can come alive once again, after closing its doors on 30 September, under this much needed funding,” Ms Wicks said.
“We can’t thank Chad and the LNP Team enough for recognizing the work of Wynnum Community Place, but more importantly acknowledging the high and growing need for our service across Lytton.”
