Vital congestion busting project left by Labor will be delivered by LNP
The LNP will deliver a congestion-busting upgrade to the Mackay-Bucasia Road gridlock, which has left locals and visitors to the tourism hotspot spinning their wheels for far too long.
Mackay-Bucasia Road intersection is a notorious traffic chokepoint but Labor has failed to deliver critical upgrades, leaving locals caught in congestion.
LNP Deputy Leader Jarrod Bleijie said the $20 million commitment would start works after the project had languished on Labor’s ‘to-do’ list.
“The LNP will finally start works at the Mackay-Bucasia Road pinch-point as part of our Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Mr Bleijie said.
“This road is only getting busier, it’s a key route to the community’s schools, businesses and shops, and under Labor it’s been left to grind to a halt.
"Time's up for Labor’s expensive failures which have overseen $20 billion-plus in project cost blowouts, that could have instead delivered local infrastructure like an upgrade for the Mackay-Bucasia Road intersection.”
LNP MP for Whitsunday Amanda Camm said the project would get Mackay moving again.
“The LNP’s upgrade to the Mackay-Bucasia Road intersection would deliver upgrades such as traffic lights and signal upgrades, as well as road widening and flood mitigation works,” Ms Camm said.
“We’ll work with Council to get the project moving and improve congestion, safety, and flooding impacts so local families and visitors are spending more time doing the things they love, and less stuck in traffic.
“This 11km section of road is the only access route from the Bruce Highway to Rural View, Bucasia, Eimeo, Blacks Beach and Shoal Point, and it is infamous for turning into a carpark most days.
“Delays to this project are the reason why we must show Labor the door in 2024 and get both this project moving and get Mackay moving.
"Only the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.”
