A Message From Rob
Hi, I'm Rob Molhoek, your LNP member for Southport.
Elected in 2012, Rob is the State Member for Southport, Deputy Chair of the Queensland Parliamentary Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee, Assistant Shadow Minister for Families, Seniors, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, and Co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of First Nations. Rob is committed to making our community safer, securing our housing foundations, and ensuring easier access to health services for all Queenslanders.
His previous public service includes roles as:
- Assistant Minister for Child Safety
- Assistant Minister for Planning & Development
- Shadow Minister for Housing & Public Works
- Gold Coast City Councillor & Chair of Finance & Internal Services
- Deputy Chair of Transportation, Public Works, and Utilities Committees
- Chief Opposition Whip
Rob and his family grew up in Southport and have a deep love for the Gold Coast. He has four sons and two grandchildren, and they enjoy spending time at the beach, in the surf, at the footy, and jet-skiing around the Broadwater.
Rob's first job was packing bread rolls after school at Gold Coast Bakeries. He was a foundation student at Keebra Park State High School and spent the first ten years of his working life at Woolies. Today, he is an accomplished executive with local and international experience in small business and the corporate world. Rob has been a broadcaster, retail manager, wholesale manufacturer, barista, and pizza maker.
Prior to entering politics, he was General Manager of Sea FM Limited, operating local radio stations 90.9 Sea FM & 92.5 Gold FM. Outside of work, Rob has extensive experience on not-for-profit boards. He was a founding director and investor in the Gold Coast NRL Titans, founding Chairman of the Gold Coast Community Fund, and has served as a director of Bravehearts, a charity committed to protecting children from sexual abuse, since 2006. He continues to be an ambassador and fundraiser for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, which raises money to help provide accommodation and services to the homeless. Rob is also a strong advocate and champion of Southport-based domestic violence support services.
Rob has worked hard to deliver many important local and community projects, including the redevelopment of the Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, and the revitalisation of the Southport CBD. Since his election in 2012, he has been focused on securing Queensland’s housing foundations and ensuring our community does not pay for Labor’s failures. He has delivered vital road upgrades to Smith St, Olsen Ave, Ferry Rd, High St, Ross St, and Bundall Rd, along with significant improvements to public transport, including the Gold Coast Light Rail and improved car-parking in Southport and at the Parkwood Light Rail station.
As the State Member for Southport, Rob’s enduring goals include the establishment of the Common Ground model of supportive accommodation on the Gold Coast and in other major population centres around Australia, more public and affordable housing, revitalisation of CBD Southport, extension of the light and heavy rail networks from Helensvale to Gold Coast Airport, better health services, and working harder for Queenslanders to ensure a safer, more inclusive community. He remains steadfast in the fight against domestic and family violence and is dedicated to ensuring the Gold Coast is among the most welcoming and safest cities in the world.
