Jeremy Neal
LNP Candidate for Leichhardt
LNP Candidate for Leichhardt, Jeremy Neal, has today announced a $2 million election commitment towards the delivery of the Northern Beaches Leisure Trail – a major infrastructure project that will link Cairns to Palm Cove through a world-class network of shared walking and cycling paths.
The project, led by Cairns Regional Council, will deliver a safe, scenic and active transport alternative to the high-traffic Captain Cook Highway, while also unlocking tourism, recreation, and economic opportunities across the Northern Beaches communities.
The LNP’s funding commitment will directly support the completion of the key Kewarra Beach to Trinity Beach section – the missing link that will connect the full length of the trail from Palm Cove to Yorkeys Knob once complete.
Quotes Attributable to LNP Candidate for Leichhardt Jeremy Neal:
Mr Neal said the investment was a win for both locals and visitors, with safety, health and economic benefits for the whole region.
“This is about delivering something truly iconic for our region – a vibrant leisure trail that promotes healthy living, safer travel, and stronger local businesses,” Mr Neal said.
“The Northern Beaches are one of our greatest assets, and this project will encourage both locals and tourists to get out and experience everything they have to offer. Whether you’re a recreational walker, a serious cyclist, or a visiting tourist, this trail will connect our communities in a new and meaningful way.”
“This is long-term infrastructure that boosts liveability and drives visitation, and I’m proud to back it
with this $2 million commitment.”
Quotes Attributable to Hon. Sussan Ley MP, Deputy Leader of The Opposition:
Ms Ley said the LNP would always back Far North Queensland with the investment it deserves. “This funding will keep people out of harm’s way — off a highway and onto a trail, inviting them to spend more time exploring as they spend money in local cafes and at shops.
“Well done to Jeremy Neal on fighting hard for this and delivering such an important commitment.
“Jeremy knows his community intimately and will always prioritise the right projects at the right time.
“Because of Jeremy, an LNP Government will back this project, creating an enjoyable and safe pathway. Parents with prams, the elderly with mobility devices and also cyclists will be some of the biggest winners.”
Quotes Attributable to Deputy Mayor and Division 9 Councillor Brett Olds:
Deputy Mayor and Division 9 Councillor Brett Olds welcomed the commitment and said the trail will transform how people move through and engage with the northern suburbs.
“The Northern Beaches Leisure Trail has been a long-held vision for our community, and this funding will help bring a critical part of that vision to life.”
“We know locals want safer, more enjoyable ways to travel between our beautiful beaches and we know visitors are looking for immersive, active experiences when they come to our region.” Cr. Olds
This announcement builds on the LNP’s broader commitment to invest in Far North Queensland infrastructure that supports liveability, drives regional dispersal of tourists, and boosts local economies.
