- Nicklin Way to Third Avenue connection to ease Caloundra Road bottleneck.
- LNP to deliver critical congestion busting project after Labor turned its back on Caloundra.
The LNP will deliver a critical congestion relieving connection between the Nicklin Way and Third Avenue in Caloundra, to help take up to one-fifth of traffic off Caloundra Road.
The transport connection project, announced as part of the LNP’s $400 million Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan, is the second stage of a link already under construction between Omrah Avenue to Arthur Street in Caloundra.
The LNP has stepped in with a commitment to fund the second stage of the project, between Third Avenue at Arthur Street, to the Nicklin Way, after the Albanese Labor Government cut their funding for the project.
In contrast, Labor’s local MP for Caloundra Jason Hunt has refused to commit to the project or any other congestion busting projects to take the pressure off Caloundra Road.
LNP Deputy Leader Jarrod Bleijie said only the LNP would stop the Caloundra carpark and ease congestion on Caloundra Road.
“The Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade between Third Avenue and Nicklin way is a win-win, delivering a new connection into the Caloundra CBD while also taking major pressure off Caloundra Road.
“This will remove traffic from Caloundra Road, with fewer delays, less cars and a quicker drive.
“Labor MP Jason Hunt has refused to fund a project that is designed, planned and shovel ready.
“Only the LNP will end the Caloundra carpark, nothing will change unless we change the government by voting LNP next month.”
LNP Candidate for Caloundra Kendall Morton said traffic congestion on Caloundra Road was raised every day.
“The Nicklin Way to Third Avenue connection is a game-changer for easing traffic on the Nicklin Way-Caloundra Road roundabout.
“Sunshine Coast residents have spoken and next month they can vote for the LNP’s Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan to ease traffic on Caloundra Road.
“The major delays, frequent accidents and heaving intersections under growing traffic congestion across Caloundra aren’t good enough.
“Labor has short-changed the Sunshine Coast for too long and time’s up for Labor.
“Our region deserves so much better than Labor’s failures which have left us caught in congestion and no plan to ease it.
“Anyone who has driven through Caloundra during peak traffic times knows how crucial this upgrade will be.
“Our road network has been in urgent need for extra capacity for years, and Jason Hunt and Labor have ignored the community’s calls for help.
“Labor and Jason Hunt have no plans for Caloundra’s future and have taken the beautiful region for granted.
“Caloundra needs a fresh start and only the LNP has the Right Plan.”
The LNP’s $400 million Caloundra Congestion Busting Plan includes:
- Completing the Nicklin Way to Third Avenue connection to take traffic off the Nicklin Way-Caloundra Road roundabout, providing alternative access into Caloundra CBD.
- Delivering a new link between Aura Boulevard to Pelican Waters Boulevard to ease pressure on Caloundra road.
- Constructing a new Kawana Way Link Road/Bells Creek Arterial Road overpass over Caloundra Road to keep traffic moving.
- Signalising the Bellvista Boulevard-Caloundra Road intersection and upgrading with slip lanes to and from Caloundra Road to boost capacity and move vehicles more quickly.
- Fast-tracking construction by directing TMR to commence planning for a congestion solution for the Nicklin Way/Caloundra Road roundabout.
