Plans for a major revitalisation of the Chermside Aquatic Centre are underway with the search underway for a long-term partner to design, build and operate a first-class facility.

The Chermside Aquatic Centre is one of Brisbane’s most popular public pools with more than 863,000 visits in the past three financial years.

This planned redevelopment will deliver a modern, inclusive, and family-friendly precinct to meet the needs of the growing northside community.

More than 600 people move to Brisbane every week, and this upgrade will ensure the much-loved pool keeps pace with the area’s growth and delivers more to see and do in our suburbs.

The upgrade will include:

  • A new indoor 25-metre heated program pool with ramp and accessibility equipment
  • An outdoor 50-metre pool with heating and a moveable swim wall
  • Modern amenities
  • Waterplay features
  • An upgraded café/kiosk and administration areas
  • New plant and filtration systems
  • Sustainable and energy-efficient design

The revitalised aquatic centre will remain at its current location alongside other community services, including the Kedron-Wavell Services Club, Chermside Library, and 7th Brigade Park.

This upgrade will be a partnership between Council and a delivery partner, with procurement to open on 18 August for proposals to design, deliver and operate the Chermside Aquatic Centre under a long-term lease.

This project would have funding support from Council, with plans for a contract to be awarded in the second half of 2026.

Quotes attributable to Civic Cabinet Chair of Community and the Arts Vicki Howard:

“Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital, and we’re committed to delivering world-class facilities in our suburbs for everyone to enjoy.

“Our local pools create even more to see and do in our suburbs and provide great opportunities for families to have experiences close to home.

“Brisbane pools continue to be popular, which is why we’re investing in their future and their role providing an affordable outing all year round.

“This upgrade is part of our plan to invest in our suburbs and deliver the infrastructure our growing city needs.
