LNP brightens up community sports at Ferny Hills

The LNP will deliver a lighting project for Ferny Hills State School oval if elected next month to give local kids more time to play the games they love.

An LNP Government would deliver lighting to allow community sporting groups to train and play on the oval after hours, providing more sports ground space for Brisbane’s north-west.

LNP candidate for Ferny Grove Nelson Savanh said the LNP’s $300,000 lighting commitment was part of the LNP’s Games On! community Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund to boost participation in grassroots sport across Queensland in the leadup to 2032 and beyond.

“Local sports clubs have been crying out for space to train and play and our investment will deliver this for the Hills District,” Mr Savanh said.

“The LNP will deliver a legacy across Queensland ahead of 2032, to encourage more kids into sport and train our next generation of Olympians and Paralympians, including at Ferny Hills State School.

“Queensland’s grassroots sporting and recreation clubs are the backbone of local communities and Games On! will get more Queenslanders on the field.

“Labor’s failures have overseen $20 billion-plus in project cost blowouts that could have instead delivered community infrastructure like this much needed upgrade for Ferny Grove State School earlier.

“Queenslanders should have a government that delivers the programs and services needed for the State’s future, supporting our communities.

“Only the LNP stands ready to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.”

Janna Roop from the Brisbane Rhinos American Football Club said the club was excited at the prospect of using this new field to work with Ferny Hills State School to provide both tackle and flag football opportunities to FHSS students and the wider community.

“This improved green space will go a long way in helping many local sporting clubs find a place to train and play,” Ms Roop said.

“Thank you LNP for committing to create this desperately needed sports field!”
