Too many young women and girls are currently being held back from playing their sport of choice due to inadequate female sporting facilities across Queensland.
That is why today, LNP candidate for Ryan, Maggie Forrest, is proud to announce that a Dutton LNP Government will invest $500,000 to deliver new fit-for-purpose, female changerooms and toilets at the Moggill Mustangs Junior AFL club.
“The development of these facilities will allow the Moggill Mustangs to field more women’s teams and encourage more girls to participate in sport at the junior level,” Ms Forrest said.
“I’ve heard concerns from members of our community that too many young girls are currently having to change in sporting club carparks or use the male changerooms. We need to do better, and our commitment will help fix this inequity in our local area.
“These facilities will also allow for greater community engagement across the surrounding areas as well.”
Shadow Minister for Sport, Senator Anne Ruston, said that the LNP is focused on supporting grassroots sporting infrastructure to remove barriers to participation, particularly for women and girls.
“Investing in women’s sport is essential, especially as we look to seize on the legacy opportunities of the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games,” Senator Ruston said.
“We want to boost participation in grassroots sport and encourage more Australians to get out there and get active, because we know it has so many health and wellbeing benefits.”
