A Dutton Liberal National Government will back sporting clubs and residents in Blair by investing in upgrades at the North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct.
LNP candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, has announced $5 million to install a new, large display screen and provide majority funding for a 900-seat eastern grandstand.
“Community sport participation is at a record high and yet our sporting clubs are struggling to keep up amidst Labor’s cost of living crisis. That’s why the LNP will invest in projects like this one,” Mr Mutzelburg said.
"We love our sports in Ipswich, which is why a Dutton LNP Government will deliver these upgrades to ensure the venue is world-class.
“I’ll always listen and fight for our community. We need to invest in community facilities and infrastructure and not be taken for granted in Blair.”
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said this commitment was a positive step towards Council’s ultimate vision of a North Ipswich Sport and Entertainment Precinct, which could be used to host national sporting competitions, concerts and community events.
“The redevelopment of North Ipswich Reserve has been a priority of Council and the community for many years. I welcome this significant commitment from the LNP to deliver on our city’s vision.
“A high-quality big screen and supporting upgrades will be critical to our city’s ability to host NRL and A-League games in the future as well as large concerts and cultural events.
“This commitment is not just an investment in sport, it will also help us attract more games, events and visitors to Ipswich Central, which is great news for our local businesses and tourism operators.”
CEO of Ipswich Jets Rugby League Club, Richard Hughes, said, “We’re incredibly grateful for the support being shown toward the installation of a new display screen and supporting infrastructure at North Ipswich Reserve.
“This investment will significantly enhance the game-day experience for fans, create new opportunities for community engagement and event delivery, and modernise a key piece of sporting infrastructure in our city.
“It’s a great step forward not just for the Jets, but for the broader Ipswich sporting community.”
