The LNP has today announced a major congestion-busting project to ease Gympie Arterial Road, with an upgrade to the intersection of Beams Road in Carseldine, a critical chokepoint across Brisbane’s traffic network.
The $30 million upgrade, part of the LNP’s Safer Roads, Better Transport program, will include additional lanes on the southbound approach, two dedicated right turn lanes from the eastern approach, two dedicated through lanes and a short left turn.
The upgrade, which will be completed in the first term of an LNP Government, will ease one of the biggest bottlenecks in the corridor, keep traffic flowing and bust local congestion.
A decade of Labor’s underinvestment in Gympie Road has seen it slow to a crawl, as it carries more than 80,000 vehicles every day.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli said the LNP would get busy Queensland roads flowing again, as part of the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.
“The LNP’s congestion-busting upgrade to Gympie Road will provide easier access to Brisbane’s northside traffic network, as part of our Right Plan for Queensland’s Future,” Mr Crisafulli said.
“Labor has left Queenslanders caught in congestion, costing them precious time and money.”
LNP Candidate for Aspley Amanda Cooper said the Gympie Road and Beams Road intersection upgrade would ease congestion on one of the most notorious traffic red-spots on the northside.
“The LNP will fix Gympie Road so you spend less time in traffic and more time at home,” Ms Cooper said.
“Every northsider knows this is one of the worst intersections in Brisbane and is a major bottleneck for drivers travelling into or out of the city, which is why this project is a major priority.
“Only a vote for the LNP next month will get our busy roads moving again, easing congestion and boosting safety.
“Our state needs a fresh start and the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future, including the plan to fix Gympie Road.”
