The Barron River Cricket Club’s relocation project has been given a major boost, with LNP candidate for Leichhardt, Jeremy Neal, today announcing a Dutton LNP Government will deliver $225,000 to support the next phase of the club’s move.
Jeremy Neal said this investment is about supporting grassroots cricket in the region and ensuring the club has the facilities it needs to thrive into the future.
“The Barron River Cricket Club, now with 60 senior and 100 junior players, is a cornerstone of our local sporting community, and this funding will help secure its future at a new, purpose-built location,” Mr Neal said.
“The relocation of the Barron River Cricket Club has been a long-term project, and this funding will provide the critical support needed to advance phase two of the plan.
“The funding will help deliver training nets, lighting, the development of a training ground with junior fields, ensuring the club continues to grow and provide quality facilities for players of all ages.
“By supporting this project, the LNP is investing in the next generation of local cricketers, making sure they have the facilities they need to train and compete at their best.”
Barron River Cricket Club President, Tony Webster, said, “The Barron River Cricket Club is very excited for this support as it will allow us to start the development of our new home ground.
“As a club we have grown in numbers to the point we are bursting at the seams at the ground we lease from the AFL. This support will ensure we can start to build a high-quality local cricket facility for the Northern Beaches.”
This commitment from the LNP underscores its dedication to strengthening community sport across Far North Queensland, ensuring that clubs like the Barron River Cricket Club can continue to be a hub for participation and development.
This commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get Australia back on track
