A Dutton-led Liberal National Government will deliver $2.2 million towards a new youth fitness recreation zone to get young people active.
The funding will support a proposed new Youth Active Recreation and Fitness Zone to be built on the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Sippy Downs campus, and would include a BMX track, pump track, playground and an amenities block built for students, sports clubs, and the general public.
“This commitment is a clear sign that the LNP is focused on addressing critical issues, including youth crime, community funding, and healthcare in regional communities like Fisher,” Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, said.
“If we’re going to address the youth crime and the mental health crises facing communities like ours – which Labor have utterly ignored – then we need to get young people active and engaged. I couldn’t think of a better project or an area more in need of this kind of community infrastructure.
“Families and young people from across the Sippy Downs and Palmview community are set to benefit from this wonderful new sporting facility, and I couldn’t be prouder to announce that a Liberal National Government will deliver this project for our local community.
“The only way to ensure our community receives investment in crucial projects like this one, which make a big difference to the lives of young people, is if a LNP Government is elected.”
Vice Chancellor and President of the University of the Sunshine Coast, Professor Helen Bartlett, said “I welcome this commitment as a win for the Sippy Downs community, and a show of support for the University as a hub for local young people and their families.
“An investment like this would enable us to support hundreds of local families – including many whose parents’ study, work, research, and volunteer at the University.”
