LNP candidate for Leichhardt, Jeremy Neal, has today announced a $1 million
commitment to upgrade the much-loved Muddies Playground on the Cairns Esplanade if
a Liberal National Government is elected, ensuring it remains a safe and fun space for
families, locals, and tourists.
The funding will deliver:
- New and upgraded playground equipment to enhance the play experience.
- Improved safety features to protect children using the facility.
- Better hygiene and water play infrastructure to meet modern standards.
- Increased accessibility and inclusive design to cater to children of all abilities.
- A revitalised family-friendly space that attracts both locals and visitors to the Cairns Esplanade.
Mr Neal said the upgrade was essential to enhance safety, hygiene, and visitor experience,
helping to future-proof the playground for the growing community.
“Muddies Playground is a staple of the Cairns Esplanade, enjoyed by thousands of families
every year,” Mr Neal said.
“But after years of use, it’s in need of a major upgrade to ensure it remains a safe, clean,
and engaging play space for local kids and visiting families alike.
“It will also help boost tourism by ensuring that families visiting Cairns have access to
fantastic outdoor facilities right on the Esplanade.”
“The LNP is backing Cairns families, backing tourism, and backing local jobs with this
investment. We want Cairns to remain one of Australia’s most family-friendly holiday
destinations, and that starts with world-class public spaces like Muddies Playground.”
Cairns Regional Council has identified the revitalisation of Muddies Playground as a key
investment priority, recognising its importance as a community and tourism asset.
Cairns Regional Council Deputy Mayor Brett Olds said, “Muddy’s Playground is the most
popular all-age play area within our region and it has quite literally, been loved to death.
“Revitalising this area is of utmost importance, as it is a cherished community asset.
Today’s announcement is great news for the Cairns community, and we thank Jeremy Neal
and the LNP for listening to the needs of Cairns and acting on them.”
The $2 million project will be co-funded by Cairns Regional Council, which will contribute
the remaining $1 million.
