A major funding commitment to tackle early intervention has been announced by the LNP in Townsville, as Queenslanders continue to lose faith in the State Labor Government to fix the Youth Crime Crisis they created.
Community Gro in Garbutt provides after hours services to help young people at risk of offending, by providing them with access to education, mental health support and assisting with developing social and life skills.
Shadow Minister for Police and Community Safety Dan Purdie said the LNP will provide a $1.8 million investment for Community Gro, as part of the LNP’s $100 million Gold Standard Early Intervention policy.
“The LNP will support Townsville’s Community Gro Garbutt as part of our major Gold Standard Early Intervention program, to restore safety where you live,” said Mr Purdie.
“Queenslanders have been held hostage by Labor’s Crime Crisis, but the LNP is committed to making our community safer with Adult Crime, Adult Time, and gold standard early intervention.
“A decade of chaos and crisis under the Palaszczuk/Miles Government has seen crime skyrocket and almost 300,000 victims in Queensland last year – more than New South Wales and Victoria.
“The LNP will provide the circuit breakers, to stop these at-risk young people turning to crime.
“Community Gro would restart the Garbutt Afterhours Youth Hub/Drop-in Diversionary Service for young people aged from 10-17, a service that was cancelled under Labor after funding was cut earlier this year.”
LNP Candidate for Townsville Adam Baillie said only the LNP had the Right Plan for Queensland’s future.
“Townsville is sick of living in fear,” Mr Baillie said.
“While Labor MPs think the youth crime crisis doesn’t exist, the LNP has been listening to Queenslanders.
“Labor’s weak laws and failure to deliver gold standard early intervention has left Queensland with a generation of hardcore repeat youth offenders.
“Only by preventing, intervening, diverting, rehabilitating and protecting can we end Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis and restore safety where you live.”
