The LNP is throwing its support behind the veteran community on the Sunshine Coast with a $975,000 commitment to the Camp SMEAC project to deliver a new wellbeing hub for veterans.
SMEAC is a veteran-led charity that provides hands-on support, purpose, and community for veterans and their families through reconnection, rehabilitation, retraining, and transition into civilian life.
Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, said the funding would deliver a new wellbeing hub on the Camp SMEAC site.
“SMEAC is an incredible organisation, and through Camp SMEAC, they are working to transform the lives of veterans, at-risk youth, and their families,” Mr Wallace said.
"Peter Dutton has met with the SMEAC team, and Barnaby Joyce has joined me in visiting the Camp. I couldn’t be prouder to have their support as we commit $975,000 to deliver the next stage of the Camp SMEAC project.”
“This funding commitment is a reflection of the value the LNP places on supporting our veteran community and their wellbeing.”
President of SMEAC, Tim Cuming, welcomed the announcement as a big win for local veterans, for young people, and for families across the Sunshine Coast and Queensland.
“Camp SMEAC has been a labour of love and dedication for so many volunteers and supporters. To have the LNP – and particularly Andrew Wallace – get behind us with this kind of funding commitment shows that our hard work is paying off,” Mr Cuming said.
“This funding would enable us to deliver life-changing – and in some cases, lifesaving – services for veterans, for their families, and for at-risk youth.”
