A Dutton LNP Government will provide a major lighting upgrade to the iconic Souths Cricket Club at Fehlberg Park, Yeronga.
The $850,000 commitment will go towards the installation of cricket field lighting at Norman Gray oval and the installation of irrigation at Bob Young and Jack Cooke ovals.
“These important upgrades will ensure that Souths Cricket Club can continue to cater to their existing players and expand its services to provide more opportunities to enjoy cricket in Moreton,” LNP candidate for Moreton, Henry Swindon, said.
“The additional lighting will improve sporting participation by extending playing hours, providing a boost to local participation in sport.
“Sport is so important for social cohesion and inclusion, so I am looking forward to seeing the benefits of this announcement.”
Terry Svenson, CEO of Queensland Cricket, said, "securing commitments for appropriate lighting for cricket fields is a strategic priority for us.”
“It enables cricket to deliver more programs to more people by having the option of playing in the evenings or after work. It is important for our club grounds to be as sustainable as possible to ease any cost burdens on our volunteers.
“That means things like water-wise irrigation and drainage options. We welcome the backing for such options for Fehlberg Park,” Mr Svenson said.
This commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit https://online.lnp.org.au/get-australia-back-on-track.
