An elected LNP Government will provide a major boost to the sporting community in Somerset with a $1.6 million commitment to deliver new netball facilities in Fernvale.
The funding will go towards building four new outdoor netball courts, lighting, seating and shading.
“Due to limited courts, Somerset Storm Netball currently have to go out to Ipswich and Goodna to compete,” LNP Candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, said.
“This funding ensures the Somerset Storm Netball have the chance to grow here, play here and compete here in the Somerset.
"The fast-growing areas of Fernvale and Somerset need community infrastructure that matches their needs. This is an investment in the future of our region, but particularly for our women and girls. This investment will give more opportunities to be active, play competitive sport, and connect with others in the community.
“The Somerset region has been overlooked and taken for granted by Labor for too long. If elected, I will fight for what our community needs most and be a voice for them in Parliament.”
Somerset Storm President, Kelly Clark, said “Netball is one of the fastest growing female sports in the country. It is crucial the government assists grassroot clubs to ensure the facilities are at a suitable playing level for the growing need of the Somerset community.
“We are keen to be able to use these upgrades to potentially launch local competitions in the future”
This commitment is part of the LNP plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track.
