Disaster recovery efforts in Ipswich are set to receive a major boost under a Dutton LNP Government. Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Hon Sussan Ley MP, joined the LNP candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, to announce a $1.14 million commitment to upgrade the evacuation centre at the Ipswich Showgrounds.
A Dutton LNP Government will provide the funding for critical upgrades to the centre’s electrical system, kitchen, air conditioning, and an audio-visual system.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Hon Sussan Ley MP, said, “the Liberals and Nationals will always be the party for the suburbs and regions of Australia and we’re backing that in today with this big announcement for Ipswich.
“Carl has fought tirelessly for this project. He showed me the merits of this proposal when I last visited, and because of his advocacy we have made this announcement today.
“People in Ipswich have been neglected under Labor. It’s time to get this country back on track and Carl is an integral part of that.”
LNP candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, said he secured the funding commitment to ensure the centre could continue to support the local community during disaster events.
"Recent weather events have highlighted just how important it is for communities to have the resources they need to remain safe during natural disasters,” Mr Mutzelburg said.
“The evacuation centre at the Ipswich Showgrounds has played an essential role in providing a safe shelter for the community during these events. But with the growth of our region, it is critical that the facility is upgraded so that it can continue to support our community in times of need.
“Importantly, these facilities can be utilised not only during disasters, but also to support great local events like the Ipswich Show.
“Only the LNP has a plan to back community infrastructure, invest in local projects like this one, and get Australia back on track.”
Darren Zanow, President of the Ipswich Show Society, said, “the Ipswich Showgrounds and its facilities has been delivering long-standing support for community engagement, celebrations and more recently, as a refuge and evacuation centre during times of disaster.
“It is a critical asset to the Ipswich people and therefore any upgrades to its facilities to ensure stable and proficient supply of its services is paramount.
“This funding will be applied to improve the service delivery of the event centre for community activation and as an evacuation centre for disaster management,” Mr Zanow said.
This commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get Australia back on track.
