LNP Candidate for Leichhardt, Jeremy Neal, has today announced a $40,000 election commitment to help deliver a new outdoor basketball court at Piccone’s Village in Edge Hill, backing grassroots sport and active recreation for the growing community.
Mr Neal said the investment was part of the LNP’s plan to support community-driven projects that provide benefits for locals.
“Edge Hill is a thriving suburb, and with more families moving to the area, we need to invest in recreational spaces that encourage a healthy and active lifestyle,” Mr Neal said.
“This new basketball court will provide a free, accessible facility where young people and families can come together to play, train, and socialise in a safe environment.
“We know the positive impact sport has on young people, from keeping them active to teaching teamwork and discipline.
“With funding support from both the LNP and Cairns Regional Council, the project will be an important addition to the local area, enhancing recreational options and encouraging greater participation in outdoor activities.
“The LNP is proud to support this project, ensuring that Edge Hill families and basketball lovers have the facilities they deserve.”
The project will create a high-quality, full-sized outdoor basketball court, giving local residents a dedicated space to develop their skills, participate in grassroots programs, and enjoy the game in a community setting.
The total project cost is $200,000, with Cairns Regional Council committing to fund the remainder, ensuring the facility is delivered for local residents and young athletes.
