The LNP has today made a major announcement for the Rockhampton region, confirming it will deliver a new home for Rockhampton Netball as part of a Stage 1 of the Rockhampton Sports Precinct, if elected next month.
The commitment, which will be a big boost to grassroots sports, will deliver competition-grade facilities for netball, allowing the sport to host state and national competitions.
The LNP’s $42 million commitment is part of the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future and will deliver:
- 16 outdoor netball hardcourts
- Clubhouse and amenities
- Upgrades to roads and intersections on Norman Road, via Foulkes St
- Parklands
It follows the LNP’s pledge to deliver a TAFE Excellence Precinct for Rockhampton to secure the skilled workers for Queensland’s Future and 27 hectares of land for new housing.
LNP Deputy Leader Jarrod Bleijie said the LNP’s plan would deliver a new home for netball in the beef capital.
“The LNP will boost grassroots sports and deliver a new home for Rockhampton Netball by building stage one of the Rockhampton Sports Precinct,” Mr Bleijie said.
“This will not only deliver competition-grade facilities for the Central Queensland region, but it will also ensure we are developing the next generation of Olympics and Paralympics champions.
“Only by voting 1 for the LNP will Rockhampton secure this critical sports precinct.”
LNP Candidate for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland said the Rockhampton Regional Sports Precinct was a key priority for the community.
“The LNP is investing in the future of regional sport and Rockhampton Netball,” Ms Kirkland said.
“Not only will this provide competition-grade facilities now, but it will be the home of sport in Rockhampton for years to come.”
LNP Candidate for Keppel Nigel Hutton said the LNP’s commitment would be delivered in partnership with the Rockhampton Regional Council.
“The LNP’s plan will be the start of a major new sports precinct to benefit our entire region and help grow grassroots sports,” Mr Hutton said.
“The LNP has been listening to Council and the community and is delivering a plan for our future.”
LNP Candidate for Mirani Glen Kelly said only a vote for the LNP at the election would get Queensland heading in the right direction.
“For too long the Palaszczuk/Miles Government has taken Central Queensland for granted, but the LNP would restore a government that works for you,” Mr Kelly said.
“Queensland needs a fresh start and the LNP has the Right Plan for Queensland’s Future including delivering stage one of the Rockhampton Sports Precinct.”
