The LNP will deliver a lighting upgrade and build female change facilities at Jabiru Park to increase participation and accessibility for the growing baseball community in Townsville, if elected next month.
Improved lighting will enable extended playing hours and allow more players to join the increasingly popular baseball teams in Queensland’s north.
With more women and girls signing up for the sport, new female change rooms will meet the growing demand.
Shadow Sports Minister Tim Mander joined LNP Thuringowa candidate, Natalie Marr to make the $1.575 million commitment to Townsville baseball.
Mr Mander said this significant upgrade was part of the LNP’s focus on working harder for Queenslanders, while under Labor Queensland was heading in the wrong direction.
“The LNP’s upgrade of lighting and new changerooms will give keen Townsville baseball players the flexibility to play and train after work, and after dark,” said Mr Mander.
Candidate for Thuringowa, Natalie Marr said the $1.575 million upgrade was exactly what Townsville’s baseball community was looking for.
“I’ve been talking to the local club, and they have people knocking on the door, wanting to play baseball,” said Ms Marr.
“By lighting the field, and providing proper facilities, I know participation rates will boom.
“Labor’s failures have overseen $20 billion-plus in project cost blowouts that could have instead delivered grassroots infrastructure like this upgrade to Jabiru Park.
“Queenslanders should have a government that delivers the programs and services needed for the State’s future, supporting our communities.”
Mr Mander said as former referee, he understood the importance and benefits of joining in team sports.
“This is about making communities healthier and happier by regularly participating in in team sports,” he said.
Ms Marr said Queenslanders could vote for the Jabiru Park upgrade and a government which worked for them, by voting LNP at this election.
“Queenslanders must show Labor the door in 2024, to ensure the right focus on delivering the programs, services and communities for our state,” Ms Marr said.
“Only the LNP stands ready to deliver a fresh start for Queensland.”
