SHADOW MINISTER FOR TRADE, INVESTMENT AND TOURISM
Prime Minister Albanese must bring the same level of urgency and effort to resolving tariff issues with the United States, as he is with his visit to China.
Shadow Minister for Trade, Investment and Tourism, Kevin Hogan said it is entirely appropriate that the Prime Minister engages with China as our largest trading partner however, questions remain unanswered about the Prime Minister’s ability to secure a meeting with the US.
“While the Prime Minister is prioritising face-to-face meetings in Beijing, he hasn’t shown the same drive to meet with the US President and resolve key trade issues affecting Australian exporters,” Mr Hogan said.
“The United States is one of our most important economic and strategic partners. Australian producers impacted by US tariffs deserve to see the same high-level advocacy we’re seeing this week in China,”
“The Prime Minister needs to show balanced leadership on trade. That means engaging constructively with all major partners and ensuring outcomes for Australian jobs, exporters and investors,”
“Dialogue is important, but results are what matter. Whether it’s with China, the US or any of our key partners - the Government must deliver outcomes that build confidence and open doors,”
“The Opposition supports strong, stable trade relationships.”
