THE HON. KEVIN HOGAN MP

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR PAGE

DEPUTY LEADER OF THE NATIONALS

SHADOW MINISTER FOR TRADE, INVESTMENT AND TOURISM

While the Prime Minister’s trip to China is important as our largest trading partner, it is unclear what the tangible outcomes were from this working holiday.

Shadow Minister for Trade, Investment and Tourism, Kevin Hogan, has expressed disappointment that is market access for fresh Australian blueberries was not resolved. Growers have been waiting years for progress, and they were right to expect movement on this during such a high-level visit.

Mr Hogan also highlighted the stark contrast in the Prime Minister’s approach to Australia’s relationship with the United States - our closest strategic and economic ally.

“It is disappointing that the Prime Minister hasn’t shown the same level of exuberance in engaging with the US President,” Mr Hogan said.

“The relationship with the United States got off to a poor start under this Government, following unhelpful public comments by the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Ambassador.”

“The Government must put outcomes ahead of optics - and that includes giving equal weight to all our major partners.”
