Prune and prepare: Waste weekends return in time for storm season

Brisbane residents are being encouraged to prepare their homes for severe summer storms, with the Schrinner Council announcing free green waste drop-off weekends each month this spring.

Items like branches, grass clippings, palm fronds and garden pruning's can be dropped off for free each month this spring over the following weekends:

  • 13–14 September 2025
  • 11–12 October 2025
  • 1–2 November 2025

The city's four Resource Recovery Centres are open from 6:30am to 5:45pm daily at:

  • 1372 Nudgee Road, Nudgee Beach
  • 360 Sherbrooke Road, Willawong
  • 101 Upper Kedron Road, Ferny Grove
  • 728 Tilley Road, Chandler (opposite the Sleeman Sports Complex)

Last year alone, residents dropped off more than 2,400 tonnes of green waste during the free green waste tipping weekends helping them save money and recycle more.

Once processed through Resource Recovery Centres, the green waste is then turned into mulch and compost for use in parks and gardens around Brisbane.

This year, more residents will be able to take advantage of the citywide green bin rollout, with more than 200,000 green bins now in circulation.

The citywide green bin rollout began in August and is nearly one-third complete, helping residents keep their yards tidy, reduce landfill and reduce the former State Government’s waste levy.

This initiative is supported by the Queensland Government’s Recycling and Jobs Fund.
