Federal LNP Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta MP, has committed $540,000 for the Queensland Koala Society to build a Koala Kindy, under a Dutton LNP Government.
“Australian wildlife is unique and iconic, and those dedicated to preserving our fauna must be supported,” Mr Vasta said.
“The Queensland Koala Society is well known for its important work to rescue vulnerable animals, ensuring they can return to the wild.
“This funding will go towards constructing a pre-release enclosure, which will give young, rehabilitated koalas the best possible chance of surviving in the wild.
“This facility will not only help boost the koala population numbers in Bonner but will also be a reminder of the importance and value of local conservation efforts.
“Koalas are a national treasure, and without the work of the dedicated Queensland Koala Society volunteers, their survival as a species would be under threat in Brisbane.
Angela Christodoulou, Co-Founder of the Queensland Koala Society, said “The Koala Kindy will serve as an important phase of the rehabilitation process.
"We will build a large secure enclosure over a portion of the plantation to provide protection for joey koalas for intense care and preparation for release. Once the rehabilitation of the koala has passed stringent authority checks it can then be released in the wild.”
“The Koala Kindy and Education Centre will boost the understanding and awareness of koalas and other Australian wildlife rescue and rehabilitation matters.”
